Giants beat Falcons but are you happy?

A win is good and the Giants sure needed one. Thank you Eli Manning, Kevin Boss, Mario Manningham and co.

With Boley and Aaron Ross, but without Pierce, the defense just did not get the job done. Foe me, that’s what sapped the fun from this one.

Also interesting is the focus on defense in the NFC East. We were 3,4,5, and 8 of the league’s top defenses.

Michael Boley, Rocky Bernard, and Chris Canty? Pretty awesome!

Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Chris Canty, Fred Robbins, Barry Cofield, Rocky Bernard, and Matthia Kiwanuka is pretty awesome because all 7 of those guys are good enough to start somewhere in the NFL.

Canty is the only guy I haven’t blogged about yet. Good ESPN article here (how often does that happen?) on the signing. They say he’ll play DT for the Giants, probably replacing Robbins as a starter.

But I don’t see why he would replace Robbins, the Giants best DT. If anyone cares, Pter King made Haynesworth and Cofield his 2 all-pro defensive tackles this year. Wouldn’t we better off demoting Cofield?

I have to think Canty willl see some time at DE as well because we have 3 guys who play only DT (Robbins, Cofield, Bernard) and 4 full time DTs seems like one too many.

6 years and 42 million makes him the Giants most expensive acqusition yet. Clearly they expect big things from the guy.

Nice video here. Says the Giants have the best offensive line + the best defensive line. That means we’re gonna win some games!

Giants sign DT Bernard, Boley to play WIL

Rocky Bernard is a very good signing for the Giants. A defensive tackle that rushes the passer well can definitely find a spot in the rotation. The article I’ve linked to has Reese saying Bernard is stout against the run, but there’s a reason he doesn’t start (didn’t in Seattle and probably won’t for the Giants) – he’s a better rusher than run defender.

Also a quick update on Boley – Giants.com says he’s closer to 240 than 220 and that Coughlin calls him a WIL.

Giants offering Boley 5 million a year?

According to Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants might offer Boley 5 million bucks a year.

Now Boley sounds good: 26, doesn’t miss games

He wasn’t a starter in 2008; he didn’t fit the Falcons new scheme. In 2007 he had over 100 tackles…

He’s listed at 223 but I read that he’s actually 230 or heavier. He played on the strong side for Atlanta so even 230 is undersized and 223 would be pretty small for a strong side backer.
