Safety, linebacker, defensive tackle: Giants draft or free agant needs

      Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Safety, linebacker, defensive tackle are the Giants biggest needs heading into 2010. At defensive tackle the Giants have a solid player in Barry Cofield. We can hope Canty starts to make an impact. I suppose we can hope Rocky Bernard does something but there’s no reason to think he will as far as I can see. We can assume Fred Robbins is done. We need at least one body. A real player who can collapse the pocket would be dandy.

At linebacker things are pretty sad. We can hope Boley will stay healthy the whole year (even missing significant time he had more tackles than any other Giants LB). AP is serviceable at this point in his career and Goff did show signs he might be a good replacement for Antonio Pierce. Danny Clark is a joke and the fact that no one could take his job blows me away. Clearly we need a SLB at the very least.

At safety, we can hope that Kenny Phillips makes a full recovery. He is our only safety who can cover. Michael Johnson does not belong on an NFL roster. CC Brown is fine for run support but he can’t cover (not that the Giants didn’t try to make him). Aaron Rouse seems similar to CC Brown in terms of strengths and weaknesses. The Giants desperately need a safety who can cover.

      Giants beat Eagles 36-31

      Sunday, November 9th, 2008

In a game that they should have blown wide open in the 1st half, the Giants held on to win in Philly 36-31. Turnovers kept the Eagles in the game despite getting destroyed by the Giants on all but a few plays in the first half.

Still can’t really complain too much about a win on the road against a division rival. May have been sloppy but whatever, the Giants got the job done.

      Giants destroy Seahawks

      Sunday, October 5th, 2008

The Giants offense didn’t need Plaxico Burress to embarass the Seattle Sehawks. Seattle had no answer to the Giants run game and Manning was very accurate: 19-of-25 for 267 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Even David Carr got in on the action with a TD pass. Was this the first time in NFL history that two #1 overall pick quarterbacks threw a touchdown pass to the in the same game for the same team and even to the same receiver? And who would have guessed that the receiver would be Sinorice Moss. Giants fans wondering what would happen to Moss are still wondering since he’s starting to look like a keeper…

The defense also owned Seattle all day giving up only 2 field goals. No one had a ton of tackles (Aaron Ross led the Giants with 6) but then again, Seattle didn’t really have the ball much.

WR Domenik Hixon and RT Kareem McKenzie had to leave the game with concussions. Get well soon guys!

      Giants destroy Rams

      Sunday, September 14th, 2008

I was going to go into individual performances, but the Giants so dominated the Rams in week 2 that almost everyone looked like an all-pro. We ran like crazy so Jacobs, Bradshaw and the offensive line get credit. Manning and Toomer had big games. We left a few TDs on the field early but hey it’s week 2 and we more than got the job done.

On defense, Tuck and Robbins were incredible. We didn’t give up much in the passing game so the secondary was strong. I especially liked Corey Webster’s game.

Special teams continue to look like the Giants weak link though Sammy Knight stood out some.

Giants = 4th most valuable team in NFL

      Thursday, September 11th, 2008

      1. Cowboys @ $1.612 billion
      2. Redskins @ $1.538 billion
      3. Patriots @ $1.324 billion
      4. Giants @ $1.178 billion
      5. Jets @ $1.170 billion

Not that it matters much but I think it’s interesting.

Chance to invest in Giants season tickets

      Saturday, September 6th, 2008

If you’re on the 90 year waiting list for Giants season tickets, you may get a chance thanks to the new stadium. The Giants will be charging a one time personal seat license (PSL) fee for the right to purchase season tickets. The fee is $1,000 to $20,000 per seat.

In my opinion, this will mean more people selling their seats online and looking at the seat as an investment asset rather than a family tradition.
