Since Steve Smith is already solid, if those 2 guys emerge as real weapons, and a case can be made that Hixon already has emerged, then the Giants receiving corps should be able to get the job done.

You might say that the same three guys plus Toomer didn’t get it done at the end of last season, but I blame Manning more than anyone for the playoff loss.

First Toomer gives this interview. The title uses the word “criticizes” which may be a little too dramatic (Garafolo and the other reporter are always trying to get attention the cheap way) but Toomer does indicate that he disagreed with Coughlin’s approach and that Toomer should have been a bigger part of the offense in the playoffs.

Then he said this (and this article has some of the same quotes as the other so I don’t know if they are combining two interviews or what):

As a result, Toomer said, he’s come to the conclusion that “I definitely think that in the current situation I don’t think I could go back.” He said his agent has had some talks with the Giants, but nothing substantial. And he’s looking forward to seeing what he’s worth on the open market when the free-agent signing period begins on Feb. 27.
