Kenny Phillips recovery ahead of schedule

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

This article has an encouraging quote from Kenny Phillips regarding his knee:

“It’s fixable, very fixable. A lot of guys have had it,” Phillips said, though he was told it’s rare for a younger player to suffer from it. “It should be a full recovery.”

Interestingly, and I’m not sure it’s encouraging, further down the article they talk about why Phillips play improved in 2009. Scarily it’s because he stopped listening to the coaches and “just played”. Maybe I’m reading too much into this but shouldn’t the coaches be putting guys in the best possible position?

Is Osi Umenyiora becoming too big a distraction?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

On a WFAN interview, Osi said he would quit football if he’s not a starter next season. This could mean that he’ll work his ass off to make sure he earns a starting spot.

Or it could mean that he’s feeling entitled and attention-starved and willing to do crazy stuff (like give up millions of dollars)…

We’ve also got articles on this from Mike G and Ralph V. Seems like he just wants more money and knows as a backup he won’t likely get it.

Shockey finally plays in a Super Bowl

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Here’s an article on Shockey getting to play in the Super Bowl. I’m happy for Shockey because I think he brought Giants fans more good memories than bad and I hope he does well. Part of me wants to root for New Orleans anyway because the city was so down and out after Katrina. I certainly want to see a full recovery so i can hit Mardi Gras another time or two.

On the other hand, Peyton is Eli’s brother so I could root for the Colts too…

Doesn’t really matter I guess. No matter how you look at it there are no teams I love or hate in the big game…

Strahan on all-decade team

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Congrats to Michael Strahan, one of the best Giants players ever. Comparing Strahan to the rest of the DEs on the team:

Indianapolis’ Dwight Freeney
Carolina’s Julius Peppers
Miami’s Jason Taylor

Strahan is clearly better than Freeney because of Strahan’s strength against the run. Against the other 2 guys it’s a bit harder to decide.

Richard Seymour is not on the list as DE but he is on the list as a tackle.

Giants offensive line now and in the future

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I mentioned that William Beatty would be a good player for Giants fans to watch. Did he impress or what? The Giants offensive line may be getting older but if most of these guys have a few years left (Snee certainly should have more than that) and Beatty and Boothe are as good as they seem to be, the Giants offensive line should be in fine shape for the future.

What to watch for: Giants vs. Redskins

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Obviously we’ll watch to see if the Giants defense decides to take another Sunday off, but one interesting player to watch will be William Beatty. They say he’s a natural left tackle and feels more comfortable on the left but apparently he’s the best the Giants can do at right tackle while Kareem McKenzie is hurt. Let’s see how this guy plays because he’s supposed to become our next left tackle (what happened to Guy Whimper I wonder?).

Good article from Mike G on Mario Manningham

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

Since this is basically his first year, certainly the first year he’s really played, I guess we don’t expect polished route running and no doubt there’s room (and need) for improvement. But Giants fans have to look forward to seeing this exciting player develop.

How bad is Tuck hurting?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

According to Mike G in this article on the Giants defensive line, he hurts opening bottles. No wonder his play hasn’t been what we expect.

Osi Umenyiora demoted?

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Osi coming back was supposed to make the Giants defense even batter than last year despite the new defensive coordinator. That didn’t happen and Bill Sheridan has been taking some heat. At least now he’s doing something. Fred Robbins is also joining the second team. If only we had someone to take over the linebacker and safety spots now…

Manning’s foot injuries getting serious

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Ouch. “A recent MRI on Manning’s foot revealed the stress reaction in the cuboid bone, which makes Manning susceptible to a stress fracture that could end his 2009 season.”

Not that this is looking like the Giant’s year anyway, but it seems things could easily get worse…
