Jerrel Jernigan – tough & elusive

      Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Nice article here on the Giants third round pick, new return man, and maybe slot receiver (unless anyone believes Sinorice Moss wins the job?). Jerrel Jernigan is said to be a tough guy with the ability to make people miss. Sounds like a guy we can use on the Giants.

Marvin Austin – top 15 talent and good character kid?

      Sunday, May 15th, 2011

Here we have a video of Mike Mayock discussing the East-West Shrine Game and he starts of with the Giants second round pick, Marvin Austin.

This article says Austin is a good guy, a family man who made a mistake, etc. It also calls him “Davis” a couple of times so try not to get confused as you read it.

One interesting thing is that in the video, Mayock says Austin is a late first / early second round talent without character concerns. The article (again don’t be confused by Vacchiano writing Davis instead of Austin) has what we’re more used to hearing:

Davis was, by all accounts, a first-round talent – some scouts put him easily in the Top 15..

Prince Amukamara seems like a good guy

      Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Nice article here on the Giants first round draft pick, Prince Amukamara. Seems like a family guy who never got into any trouble.

Barry Cofield looking for a long term contract

      Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

This article on Barry Cofield basically says he doesn’t want to play with a one year contract. Of course, at this point in time, he only has a one year contract. Thanks to the lockout, he is a restricted free agent for the 2nd year in a row.

Tiki Barber wants to play again

      Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Apparently Tiki is coming out of retirement and when the league says it’s OK, the Giants will release him so he can start looking for a new uniform.

Tiki’s motivation? He has no money. Apparently leaving your wife for a 23-year-old isn’t the best career move.

Eli Manning – part of the problem or part of the solution?

      Monday, December 27th, 2010

A lot of Giants have been getting free passes thanks to the 2007 Super Bowl win over the 18-1 New England Patriots. But no one can deny hat the Giants currently have a problem. Is it Eli Manning?

A lot of the debate focuses on his interceptions and whether they are Manning’s fault.

Let’s compare Eli manning to some other QBs stats (attempts/INTs).

      E.Manning: 510 / 24
      Brees 571 / 19
      P.Manning: 638 / 17
      McNabb: 472 / 15
      Bradford: 554 / 14
      Sanchez: 507 / 13
      Rivers: 504 / 12
      Schaub: 552 / 12
      Orton: 498 / 9
      Freeman: 448 / 6
      Cassel: 417 / 5
      Brady: 476 / 4

Obviously he gets credit for the TD passes but how much blame does he get for the interceptions? Two against the Packers came on desperation passes in garbage time. Tom Coughlin has said some interceptions are on the receivers but what does that mean? Why does Tom Brady thrwo so few ints? Sure some were dropped but not 20+. Are the Pats receivers that much better than the Giants receivers? Is our offense design screwed up? Or is our QB an overpaid lug?

Anyway, how much blame do you place on Manning?

Need to sign another wide receiver

      Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Injuries continue to pile on for the Giants at wide receiver. Hakeem Nicks, as a result of a hit he received to his lower right leg in last night’s game in Philadelphia, experienced swelling today and is being treated for Compartment Syndrome.

Compartment Syndrome is swelling in the lower leg which compresses nerves and blood vessels. This can lead to muscle and nerve damage if not treated immediately.

Nicks is undergoing a fasciotomy at the Hospital for Special Surgery this afternoon to address the issue.

According to the press release, Nicks is expected to miss approximately three weeks of action, which is what former Giant Jack Brewer missed when he suffered the same injury in 2004. However, 3 weeks is a pretty quick recovery time for this type of injury so it may be slightly optimistic.

      Will Blackmon’s high school days

      Friday, October 29th, 2010

This BBI message board thread seems to be from a former high school coach of Will Blackmon who is taking Kiwanuka’s place on the roster now that Kiwi is on IR. Certainly makes it easier to root for Blackmon and though it may be unfair to blame Reynuald for the Giants uninspiring return game (some blocking would be nice), nothing wrong with spicing things up.

Kiwanuka out for a while with herniated disc

      Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Not much I can say, really. Our defensive line depth looks to be OK for now with Umenyiora and Canty playing very well. It sucks for Kiwi personally (this being a contract year). Here’s the article.

Giants snag backup QB and a return man

      Saturday, September 4th, 2010

QB Sage Rosenfels and RB/WR (really a special teams guy) Darius Reynaud. The return man has me a bit more excited than the backup QB even though there is some risk with him. We give up a 5th next year and a conditional in 2012. Here it is from the Vikings’ perspective.

We need a return man, no doubt. And the averages look OK: He averaged 10.3 yards on 30 punt returns last season. He averaged 22.5 yards on four kick returns. But I believe he also had 3 fumbles so hopefully TC can do something to correct that…
