Burress & Shockey in Miami

Peter King mentioned the Giants briefly in his last article: 9. I think you could fry an egg on Giants coach Tom Coughlin’s forehead when you engage him in a discussion about Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey skipping offseason workouts in New Jersey.

  1. Joe in San Diego Says:

Coughlin needs to think more about the objective of the Giants’ off season workout program, and that intent has very little to do with the land under which the athletes work out. If athletes feel they can accomplish what they set out to accomplish within this program by locating themselves someplace other than New Jersey, then what’s the big deal? Coughlin might be better served by determining what it is that certain players feel they get at their alma mater that the Giants’ facility doesn’t offer, and then decide if it’s worth putting those missing elements in place in New Jersey in order to provide Burress and Shockey what they’re otherwise getting in Florida. I could see it if those who skipped New Jersey off season workouts showed up out of shape, but that’s not what’s being reported.

  2. Mij in NJ Says:

Having watched Burress & Shockey give up midway through last season I find this another example of their immaturity. Whenever the ball wasn’t coming their way every other play they gave up. Shockey has tremendous talent but he needs to grow up. Burress needs to stop moping and work till the end.

The whole point of working out with the team is to help with team chemistry and cohesiveness.

Down the final stretch last year Burress and Shockey were me first players who didn’t give their all.

  3. Troy Says:

We as fans of the NFL, that goes to work reguarly dont have the luxury to decide when and where we should work, unless we own the place or get permission from someone that does. So if the person (team)wants you someplace and you like your job (team) you should accomdate, or find a job(team)that will acommodate you

uhh…these are weightroom workouts. Last time I checked, those help with strength/endurance, which neither lack.

If your point is about play/target selection, I agree they should get more looks, but not pout about not getting them. You saw them “give up?” hmmm…which game(s) exactly?

  5. Don C. Says:

I believe Burress & Shockey did a very descent job at blocking til the end for the most part all year. Unless the team was catching footballs or going over film / playbook, I don’t see the problem in working out somewhere else, unless TC simply wants to watch as they work out. In that case put a cam at their workout facility.

who gives a crap. just show up on sunday and catch the damn ball. i’ll say this, Caughlin had better get to the promised land this season or he’ll be all done. maybe he should figure out how to get into field goal range in a playoff game AND NOT FUCKING WORRY ABOUT BEING 5 MINUTES AERLY FOR A MEETING.

  7. B Co Says:

The bottom line is, Shockey came to camp last year in the best shape ever, and Burress could still use some of that. The one who gets hurt is Eli because it costs them valuable reps. Personally, I think Eli should fly down there with Sinorice for a couple weeks. You want cohesiveness? They’ll come back with cohesiveness, timing, and cannons on their shoulders. BTW, you can fry an egg on a sleeping TC’s forehead. Especially the night after he shows up to a playoff game with the worst offensive gameplan in history. That’s all I’m worried about.

  8. Kim Says:

I agree. Eli should got to Miami. Shocky had a great 1st season. He is young. It is time to play with the big boys. Micheal will keep on him.

Shocky and Burress should compromise. This is really more than a time to work out. This is a time to bond. Be like Payton and Marvin. Get out there and learn some subtle things about one another. Throw the ball around. Find out what your quaterback likes or dislikes. Find out what your recievers like. The moves they like to make. How fluent they are. This process takes time. Come on guys, let’s get on the same page. If TC wants you here, why should it be an issue. Let’s get here.
