Which Giants deserve raises? Which ones need to go?

This article raises some interesting points regarding Giants personnel. First Strahan is still great and he will want more than 4 million to come back next year.Do the Ginats really need him? Sure Tuck looks ready to take over but then who will rush from the DT spot and how are we on depth?

Second, Diehl deserves left tackle money.

Third, should we try to trade Shockey? Honestly, since he is somewhat injury prone I don't think there's a whole lot of value in a trade. He's good when healthy (when he holds onto the ball) so unless we get a nice player or pick in return we probably keep him.

Fourth, we have some free agents on defense. Kawika Mitchell played well enough. Reggie Torbor filled in well for Kiwanuka. Gibril Wilson is unrestricted and James Butler is RFA. We complained about the safeties a lot this season but they did win us a Super Bowl...

Fifth, Derrick Ward is an unrestricted free agent. While it would be nice to sign him, considering how often he sees the field I don't think he's worth big bucks.

Sixth, when do you extend guys like Jacobs, Snee, and Manning? These are core guys and Jacobs is entering the final year of his rookie contract...

Finally, do we get a new kicker. Tynes had that kick in Green Bay but he wasn't exactly Mr. Consistent out there...

If they keep Diehl at left tackle, then yes, he deserves the money, but they may try to draft on with their first pick or go after a FA, which could put him back at guard, in which case a raise would still be in order, just not of the same magnitude.

Shockey, now here's a guy I just don't see as a team player, and the team concept is what got them those last 4 wins. Add to that the fact that he's injury prone, and I say we have to at least look into a posible trade. With Parcels in Miami now and his ability to reign in people with over inflated egos I'd say it's a good fit, besides, shockey likes to do his work outs down there anyway, an even better fit. If we can get a first day pick, I think the giants would be hard pressed to keep him. Keep in mind that the team concept is what's been keeping NE on top these last few years, that along with some serupticious video tape.

FAs on defense, with the way everyone came together at the end of the season, I'd say we have to look into keeping this unit as intact as possible, keep what we have, look to the draft for a possible replacement for the aging Madison.

Ward, if we can get him back at a reasonable price, I think he's worth it, as a back up. But I see a tandem of Bradshaw and Jacobs as the future.

Jacobs, Snee, Manning. Jacobs and Snee are definitely at the point where extensions should be discussed, and sought out, both played very key parts in the teams offensive output and should be locked up for the next 4 years. Manning, hopefully he'll take after his brother, and make NY his long term home, and take after Brady who was willing to take a little less $ from the team so that they could afford a nice line to protect him (it payed off well with endorsements, and that's where the real $ is for QBs)

Kicker, we absolutely need to bring in someone to challenge Tynes for the position. He had 3 shots in GB to win the game, how often do you expect him to get that many chances. I'll give him that the 2nd one was a bad snap, and he made the 3rd, but you still would have prefered he made one of the first 2 in regulation. Replacing him might not be the best option, we know he can come through in clutch moments now, but we have to at least challenge him and see how it shakes out.

Not mentioned, WR, Smith seems the heir apparent for Toomer when he's ready to go, which could be any day now that he has a ring. But who would become the #3 man? Tyree? I think we have to look at bringing in a WR with one of the top 3 picks again this year. Even if we give Tyree the #3 spot, we'll need a WR to take his place on special teams, and serve as a reserve.

I say cut Droughns. He is of little value if even that. Then Sinorice Moss what the H*ll did he contribute other than taking up a spot on the bench. I say put money toward Hedgecock & Ward. Had Ward not gotten hurt he'd been cycled in & out of a rotation, I suspect, with Bradshaw. Keep J Shockey until the trading deadline & if he still wants to run crap from the locker room as opposed to on the field then trade his ass. It's about the team. I love his heart & emotion but not enough to watch the Giants struggle game after game. (I knew there was a reason I didn't buy his jersey) Keep Hixon! Got to have Special Teams. Ready to see what Kiwanuka can offer up after his early season injury. I also hope the purse strings get loosened up for Mitchell. KC didn't see fit to keep him, but he is just what Spagnuolo seemed to be able to get max potential from. I Hope Toomer & Strahan stick around for one more season to see if a repeat is even a chance. Cut J Lorenzen as well I'm sure he is a great fella but come on will he ever start in NYC? Not likely. Would we get anything for him? probably not but there is always a chance.

Can anyone answer who may go to Philly if D McNabb winds up in Baltimore. I am beginning to think the Ravens got the wrong idea with the Rooney Rule ... Minority Coaching Candidates not washed up ...or past their prime QB's.

i think they should keep diehl and pay coach the money he asked also i heard that they are looking at Falcons cb for the 31th pick in the first round d.hall i think with some veteran leadership,Hall can be one of the best cornerback around but must played with the head and not the mouth
