I'm no fan of the Ravens, but I don't think their players deserved fines for criticizing the officials after they lost to the Pats in the closing minute sof the game.
Let's face it: officiating in the NFL sucks. Every week we see lots of not just bad calls but absolutely ridiculous calls. Until the NFL figures out how to provide quality officiating, they and their officials deserve all the criticism we can possibly offer.
Posted by James Trotta at December 9, 2007 9:44 PMAs to last night's game; I am very down on my team right now...were there any players who played well? Jacobs had 130+ yards and dropped 4-5 screens...he looked very tentaitve running in the first half, he was so concerned with fumbling that he wasn't hitting the hole hard. Madden was wrong they ran better when running to the right behind Snee and not at Carter...I'd like to see Bradshaw get some reps at tailback...more drops by Toomer, Plax and Moss, who can't go forward when he catches a pass...
Eli...even without the drops played poorly, we drafted a QB ( and a kicker) who just cannnot play at his own stadium.
The defense lets up three to end the first half and then let's them march down the field to open the second half and score, that was the dagger through the heart.
Even when our D-backs are in position to make a play on the ball, they NEVER pick it off...how many times have we seen Madison get hit in the hands...I thought Dockery and the young safeties played well though.
I am disgusted, couldn't sleep after that embarrassing loss; we have set ourselves up to be heartbroken again...if they lose at Buffalo next week they may not get in to the playoffs...even if they did, they are not playing like a playoff team...
I told my disinterested wife that Eli needs to get Phil Simms and/or Jeff Hostetler on speed dial and get Giants Stadium wind currents and jetstreams 101. There is a science to it and Coughlin and Gilbride need to get on board too. Some passes just can't be called during the blustery winter months. More screens and more seams to Shockey. And a whole lot less heaves into QB no-man's-land. Yeah the officiating blows. Question #1: The NFL is making ungodly jack. Can't they start up an officiating academy? Make 'em all younger and full-time? Give 'em naked eye exercises to fine tune what should already be 20/20 vision. Question #2: Shouldn't the Nfl at the very least have backups waiting in the wings in case a regular gets injured..a la The NBA? Case in point the Dallas vs. Gmen ll; second half Big Blue gets absolutely "bentovah" by two brutal holding calls. Whilst holding isn't reviewable an extra body with a pulse could've possibly over-ruled the schmuck(s) that threw either flag. Also Jones gettin' nailed for his signature "horse-collar" is just desserts but too lil' too late in my estimation. I saw at least 3 of them in NY when we got jobbed when the RomoBoys were here last. Now it happens to a QB and sound the alarm. Pa-lease! Jacobs, Toomer and someone else all fell victim to Jones' all-pro(ha!)caliber tactics and no laundry was ever thrown. Whatta shock that Buck or Aikman never made mention of it either.

We don't have to get out of control, we don't have to self destruct...
All we have to do is rise to the top, and we will get it, you bet it.And how lucky we will be.
