The Giants played the Cowboys even in the first half. In the second half, some stupid penalties wiped out some big plays and the Cowboys outplayed the Giants for the win.
The Cowboys offense really outplayed the Giants defense - Romo didn't see much pressure (Eli did) and our coverage wasn't too hot either. Dallas was able to convert on third down when it counted and it didn't look like our defenders were ever in a position to stop them.
Do you blame the coaches or the players (or both)?
Posted by James Trotta at November 12, 2007 10:34 PMEli's mistakes were obvious...the root of the problem yesterday was perhaps less obvious...the lack of pressure by the D-line was the difference maker here. Our DB's look bad (and old) when we cannot get to the QB...that's the same Sam Madison out there as in past games, but the QB was given too much time, the DB's can't cover that long.
Terrible holding call on Kevin Boss on Bradshaw's run back, Aikman did not even mention what a terrible call it was...
No doubt our defensive line failed to get the job done. Our offensive line also got beat up. When you lose in the trenches...
At least Guy Whimper looked solid at right tackle when he had to come in.
Posted by: James Trotta at November 13, 2007 11:06 PMDid anyone notice that Owens was getting alot of single coverage?Maybe worrying too much about the tight end, unlike week one.Your right we need some younger dbs, and where was the pass rush? All and all not a good effort.
Posted by: tomt at November 14, 2007 1:20 AMSunday showed that the G-men are not among the the elite teams in the NFL. Dallas & the Packers are the best in the NFC. The Giants will play Detroit on sunday to see if they are at the least a second tier team.
I am curious, who else thinks that Eli is just not that good when its a big game?
Posted by: John C at November 14, 2007 3:50 AMI'll try and keep this as brief as possible due to the fact my last entry was a.)Too long or b.)Too passionate. whichever the the case here goes nothing. Ever since our monumental meltdown vs. the Randall Cunningham-led Viks in the the play-offs during Fassel's regime There has been an acute lack of composure when things become the most tense. We were up three scores during that one and then there was the implosion that was another play-off choke job vs. the niners a few years back. By composure during the The Coughlin era I mean getting the freakin' play in on-time so Eli can a.) audible, b.)mess w/ cadence or c.) call a time-out. Either Gilbride's terminology is epically long or T.C. is relying on the officiating crew to restart the play-clock at his whim. Two times I saw T.C. pushing his palm up to the sky repeatedly and emphatically neither time was he acknowledged. Then there were the two dubious as best and incredibly lame at worst "holding calls" on Boss and Snee. The one on Boss was a joke and the one on Snee was comparible. B.Jacobs scores with or without that block. Which brings me ultimately to my point; When My Beloved Giants have faced any kind of adversity during the mid-nineties to the present they implode like a house of cards. They don't hunker down. They don't pick each other up. They start pointing fingers. I blame The head on down. I blame the front office for not filling in important spots like SS and Lb and not drafting "character guys". I see a lot of woofing when the going is easy an everything's love-love. I see a lot of histrionics when things are tough and seem well....futile. Admittedly (down a ref; which is crap. The NFL cannot do what the NBA does with less games and much more chances to get hurt? Please.) the two holding calls made me feel like we were playing in Big D (that along with Aikman doing the game) either that or Jerry Jones made a few electronic deposits at halftime especially after one of his rooks cost 'em 3 points at the end of the first half. All this means squat to real players with real character. Accountability has become a huge issue with The Big Blue of late and I hopes it's a trend that ends really soon. Oh yeah that and some more talent in the second and third tier of my "wreckin' crew" would be just swell. We don't have anyone else on the taxi-squad that can give Butler and Johnson a run for their money? C'mon. All I'll close with is I hope to hell The Giants either suck-it-up or spontaneously combust. I don't wanna see another last year "streak-fest" and then back into the post-season only to go "El foldo", screwing up a decent draft position. C'mon Blue show some heart...that's that thing about a foot below the other thing that's constantly flappin'...just so's ya'know. Late, Wms07
