Giants lose to Jets but look OK doing it

Newsday's Arthur Staple seems mostly positive on the Giants performance against the Jets.

I guess I'm encouraged to. Other than the first play from scrimmage our first team D played real well, totally shutting down the Jets. On offense, Manning wasn't asked to do too much and he was fairly consistent. Field goals could be a problem though...

I saw the usual ups and downs of the giants against the jets. with the season coming up I just don't know what to expect. there was one interesting thing I heard during the game, about how with toomer in last season they were 6-2, when he went down 2-6. Anyone else think this might have a lot to do with the fact that the other 2 main receivers (shockey and burress) don't bother showing up until the last second for mandatory camps.

If the rumors about Cower coming to the Giants next year are true, what do you think that means for Plax? I say send him back to Pittsburg for a 3rd rounder. Or better yet, trade him and shockey to miami, since they prefer to practice there anyway. Between Mix, Tyree, and Smith, I think if we can draft a solid TE next year, we can make it work. Can anyone say "John Carlson" or "Martin Rucker" or even "Martellus Bennett" if he comes out for the draft. Next year is looking like they'll be some depth at LB too if we need, of course there's always "Jake Long" for a little bit of depth on the line, be nice to give Eli the time he needs in the pocket. Any way you slice it, the Giants have talent, they just need to work together and get the timing down, Lets face it, Eli is not Unitas, and Plax isn't about to catch a ball at night with the lights out, that kind of timing takes a lot of time, a lot of practice, and a lot of reps, and a lot more than you get from just showing up and doing only what you have to, assuming you don't have the flu, or a sore ankle or knee, or whatever his excuse is next week. What we need are dedicated people.

Interesting comments about trading Shockey and Plax. Both very good players but are they champions? Shockey seems to have the injury bug and Plax doesn't seem to have the heart. But they both have the talent...
