LaVar Arrington: Giants WILL

This has to make you smile. Arrington at WILL, Pierce at MIKE, Emmons at SAM (or Torbor or Short but I think Emmons is best) is a good looking linbacking corps! Wow! I'm excited!

7 years and 49 million seems like a lot but you have to trust the Giants cap management which has been good recently. I don't know how much is guaranteed. Newsday predicts a 7-8 million dollar signing bonus which is a lot but not unreasonable. Anyway, who excited?

Who isn't excited!?!? Now we can concentrate in other areas in need during the draft. NY Giants football has always been about the D. Let's not forget it!

Remember the 86 def, if you don't you will. between the line, the revamped LB corp, and the beefed up secondary. Now we can focus on drafting a tackle on each side of the ball day 1.

Maybe it's only me, but what I find perplexing is that some of the football pundits who predicted the Giants would not have a winning season this year within minutes of the League's schedules announcement (understandable, given the Gmen being set up with the toughest schedule (along with the Bengals) in the League), have not seen fit to reconsider their "analysis" in light of EA's free agency signings that have by all accounts greatly bolstered the defensive unit over last year's squad. The latest data point for us to consider is the addition of Lavar Arrington, who apparently brings nothing to the table since the win-loss predictions of some remain unaffected. The fascinating aspect of these pro scholars' thinking is that they will in the same breath pronounce that it's upgrades on defense that has resulted in the winning seasons of high powered offensive teams like the Colts, Bengals, Chiefs, and Broncos to name a few. Yet apparently this same logic does not come into play for the Giants. Signing players like Arrington, Demps, and Madison are proclaimed as considerable improvements over last year's starters, but apparently no signings are enough to make a bit of difference in the win-loss column for the Giants. Let's see what these real smart folks opine should EA sign a good free agent DT, and select respectable defensive talent in the draft. If their current positions are any indication, they'll still contend the Giants won't have a winning season -- and still contend that it's significant improvements on defense that take teams with offensive firepower over the top. Hugh?

There's no doubt in my mind that the Giants will hvae a winning season and make the playoffs. I'll be surprised if they don't win the NFC East. Anyway, Great points Joe in San Diego.

Joe in San Diego. I was thinking the same thing myself and the Giants can now take the best player available in each round. They've had great free agent signings.

I'll start by telling you I like Lavar, even though he's a rat-fink sissy butt turncoat for signing with a NFC East rival. But you guys already got the best ex-Redskins LB when you got Antonio Pierce. Arrington needed a break and it wasn't coming here.

p.s. I don't agree with the 7-9 prediction for the Giants. I think any or all of the Redskins, Giants and Cowboys could go 9-7 and the division is up for grabs.

I have to say that this might be the best LB group since Carson, Banks and Taylor. With the added depth of Torbor and Short, WOW! I also like the fact Arrington's contract has performance incentives. I think that's the kind of thing to keep him motivated. Now let's go get a really good young LT in the draft and I think every other round can be used on adding the best available for depth.
