Giants not an elite team yet

I'm sure most of you saw the Giants lose to the Seahawks. Some of the Giants played well, like Osi Umenyiora who had a great day against the best left tackle in the NFL. There's no way I thought Osi could produce 2 sacks, 8 tackles, and several hits or hurries going against Walter Jones.

The problem on defense was with the secondary. Will Allen played well, but ex-Giant Joe Jerivicious had an awesome day picking on Corey Webster. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that a veteran NFL receiver can school a rookie who hasn't played much, but I was surprised anyway.

And what hapened to Jay Feely? Seattle kicker Josh Brown has an excuse for him:

"The wind really swirls in here and stays high," said Seahawks kicker Josh Brown. "It is not necessarily right down the field. That's why the first couple of kicks were ground balls on kickoffs because if you get the ball caught up in the air, it is going to drop that way. I really feel bad for him."

And the offensive line thought things were a bit too loud (and they were loud) committing 11 false start penalties (2 of which came from Walker on a punt). Petigout (5) and Diehl (3) were especially bad.

So all in all, the Giants could clean a few things up and be an elite team. But until they do...

There is enough blame to go around for this team, starting with the o-line and all of the false starts. But I would rather label it as another choke for the Manning family.

how exactly did manning choke the game? dd you watch the game? Feely missed 3 gamewinning field goals. manning drove down the field 4 times at the end of the 4th qtr and OT to put the Giants in position to win. watch the game, before you make ignorant generalizations like that.

Hey, the giants played as team on both sides of the ball! A kicker doesn't make a team! But a nice win against Dallas will make you forget-aboutit! Get the win this week, we proved we are an elite team and we can come back. These Giants have heart! Brian D

Seems the NFL now says that the 2 gift touchdowns that the (my) Giants got were really incompletions, so the game really was not that close. I would fault the false starts more than Feely. The kicker is always the last ditch effort because you couldn't move the ball 10 more yards. If anything, I thought the one Shockey catch that was ruled incomplete was more complete than the touchdown catches. Any lose sucks, but, despite the errors they hung in there and didn't give up. At home, that would have been a sure win.

I feel as though my Giants won that game. It does go as a loss but they still won. I don't believe that they are elite enough to go very far in the playoffs but then I didn't think so in 2000 either.
