I was wrong last year when I said during the preseason the Giants would be competitive although the first games of the season had some people beleiving.
This year I go on record again saying the Giants are better than they get credit for. A prediction of 7-9 seems backwards so I go with 9-7. I say this because the defense has been playing as well as can be expected this preseason while the offense should find its stride when we see more Tiki Barber. We still haven't seen a huge passing game, but I'm confident it will come together with Manning, Shockey, Toomer, and Burress.

Posted by: Mike H. at August 31, 2005 8:46 PM7-9 or maybe 8-8 seems about right to me. I wish I could say better but while Hufnagel is Offensive Co-ordinator I do not think the offense will reach it's potential. He made some terrible calls in the Carolina game. 3rd and 11 he called a play action, which not surprisingly Carolina didn't fall for and Eli had to throw the ball away. At another point 3rd and 23 he called a draw play! horrible call. that is a 'give up' play which is just going to get a few yards for the punter. I like Coughlin and I'm exited about what Tim Lewis is doing with the D but Hufnagel stinks and needs to be replaced by someone with some imagination!

Granted, I knew the Chargers were a stronger team then what their 0-2 start showed and I knew that they would come out hunger for a win. The Giants on the other hand....I had thought would struggle on offense but play solid defense especially against the run. Boy was I wrong.
In their defense though I will say that I thought they did well on offense for the most part. IF they would have contained LT from running the ball like he did, the game would have been a lot close. I don't think that the Giant defense played up to their own ability against the chargers. If they can get some of those rinkles out, I think a 10-6 record is not out of the question.
My opinion only
