Jeremy Shockey

Neil Best at Newsday has an interesting article on Shockey's determination to improve. It seems that Fassel's offense was much easier for Shockey because the play calling was simple and his role was to catch passes.

Coughlin has him in motion to distract defenses, blocking (like a real tight end), and cathcing passes. In fact Best observes that Shockey's numbers aren't bad compared to previous years.

Personally, I feel that getting Shockey involved as a blocker makes the defense work harder. A guy getting ready to cover might find it very difficult to disengage from a strong Shockey block to tackle Tiki. And common sense says that it's easier to defend when you know what's coming. With Shockey's improved versatility, teams don't know what he's up to.

This article also has some good injury news for the Giants: O'hara is out of the hospital (but probably won't play against Chicago) and Green is day to day with a sprain. The MRI didn't reveal any serious trouble.

I think that Shockey's role is a great one, using him to block as well as in motion, to see what we have over the middle as far as coverage is concerned.
The thing I wonder about is why is warner looking so out of it at times, you'd think all the great runs Tiki's been having, that the offensive coordinator would use more play action, roll Kurt out more, instead of him lounging in the pocket every time, looking like he's trying to dodge bullets.
That possesion after lewis's fumble recovery?
They were on minn's 22 and got 3 points.

You're right. The passing game has not really come together the way we hope it will.

Dear Jeremy Shockey,
I think that when Jim Fassel was your coach he to your excitment and your spirit from you. I think you shoul ask tom coughln to let you let it out. I think that when you were a rookie you helped the Giants to the playoffs. When you were all excited all of your teammates.

Sicerely,
Mike Leoni
