NFL-Giants: NY Giants football news

The spot of ball after Bradshaw’s run with about 1:30 to go left Coughlin and us fans irate. I’m not sure if he definitely got the first, but at the very least it was so close that it would only have been inches and forced a measurement. The line judge spotted it an entire yard short. Inside 2 minutes, the official in the booth needs to review that. An understandable error from the on-field official maybe he thought Bradshaw’s knee was down before he stretched across the 33. But the call on the field was clearly bad from the replays so wake up replay booth guy.

One sided officiating:

Dallas CBs got to do whatever they wanted to Giants receivers but Giants fans had to deal with potential heart attacks when the refs threw a flag on Prince near the end of the game. Even though it was offensive pass interference, you just knew the refs were throwing the flag against the Giants. Thankfully they huddled up and decided not to make the fix as obvious as that call would have made it. (joke – I’m not a conspiracy guy – I just think the refs suck) One set of rules for Scandrick playing the slot and another for Hosley. Same with Claiborne and Prince.

Amukamara had been warned earlier by an official that his coverage was teetering on the edge.

“I was warned, but I’m an aggressive corner, I like to put my hands on them,” Amukamara said.

He was sure that on the play that produced his puppy dog face, he did not interfere with Dallas receiver Kevin Ogletree.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Amukamara said. “He was the one grabbing me. “The ball was overthrown and we were both touching each other. Usually in that situation the call does go to the offense. Thank goodness they reversed it.”

Equally mind boggling = Hosley’s first illegal contact. He initiated contact within the 5 yards, but then was practically attacked by the receiver who nerly took Hosley’s helmet off. And yet the call was on him?

Several very bad missed holds in Dallas’ backfield, Cruz especially victimized.

The clock: We want to give them a TD but that would be too obvious since Bryant was clearly out of bounds. Let’s put some extra time on the clock instead so Dallas can run more plays. WTF? There were 6 seconds when Bryant landed out of bounds so why move the clock to show 10 seconds left?

The Cowboys turned the ball over 6 times and the game still came down to the last second after the Cowboys had a TD overturned because Dez Bryant’s finger came down out of bounds.

I guess you could call it mind boggling or heart palpitating that the Giants nearly managed to lose even though they won the turnover battle 6-2. Somehow the Giants offense got nothing going (1 of the Giants’ 2 TDs was scored by JPP on an interception return). There will be time for more analysis later. Now it’s time to enjoy the win.

The ref watched Trent Williams of the Redskins stick his finger into Boley’s facemask. And he watched Boley hit back. And he penalized only Boley. Great to have the old refs back.

Another 4th quarter win thanks to Eli. Eli didn’t have a great game but he was sure clutch, along with Chase Blackburn.

RG3 looks like a real talent and may actually have the Redskins among the NFL elite one day soon. The Redskins offense and RG3 were helped big time by the running game, which the Giants had no answer for. It may have been an ugly game, especially with the redskins running at will against the Giants defense, but no win in the NFC East is supposed to be easy.

Cruz, is the Giants all-pro receiver, among the best in the NFL no question. Without him, the Giants win fewer games. Need to sign him to a long-term deal.

So the regular refs, including Jeff Triplette, are back and the officiating is still terrible. A brilliant Broncos comeback could have been ruined by a horrible offensive pass interference call against Denver late in the game. This negated a long completion and probably took points away from Denver because i don’t think Decker was down by contact. So that was a touchdown in my book. According tot he professional refs we have back on the field it was something else.

The terrible offensive pass interference call on Decker certainly gave the Chargers the ball back when they didn’t deserve it. Luckily, this call didn’t decide the game, but it could have and it was bad. Can’t the NFL do something to make sure these kinds of mistakes don’t change the outcome of a game?

Jeff Triplette is still employed by the NFL.

But Monday night has another important lesson for Giants fans: Eli Manning is 10 times the QB Phillip Rivers is. That guy was a turnover machine tonight.

Jim Harbaugh deserved to get slapped. Luckily the Giants brought their A game and shut him up. Or at least gave him a beating that ought to shut him up.

The Giants offensive line, with Locklear at right tackle and Beatty at left tackle was great against a tough San Francisco front 7. Manning was not sacked and Bradshaw ran for over 100 yards.

I’d love to give the defense all the credit, but Alex Smith certainly gets some of the blame. The Giants picked him off three times and when you win the turnover battle you’re supposed to win the game.

At any rate, the Giants looked good.The 49ers looked bad. Dallas and Philly lost. A great Sunday.

They have great players. They’re tremendous, they’re tough. They have great speed on the outside, Smith is a beast on the inside, he’s strong, he does as good a job of grabbing a hold of offensive linemen and allowing those twists to take place. He never gets called for it so he gets away with murder. That, in conjunction with the ability level they have, makes them as formidable as anybody we go against, and we go against some pretty good ones in Dallas’s and Philadelphia’s. They’re as good as anybody up front.

Some whiny bitch in the 49ers organization

Kevin Gilbride’s outrageous, irrational statement regarding Justin Smith’s play is, first, an absurd analogy. Second, it is an incendiary comment targeting one of the truly exemplary players in this league. It’s obvious that the Giants coaching staff’s sole purpose is to use their high visibility to both criticize and influence officiating.

This was a statement released by 49ers PR.

By the way, the officiating still sucks now that the regular refs are back.

Here are some ideas for New York City breaks. Because if you go with your family, you’ll have to do more than just see the Giants. In fact, you’ll want to do more than just see the Giants no matter what.

Fabulous Shopping
Great Bars, Restaurants and Nightlife
Broadway Theater
World Class Museums and Galleries
Diverse Neighborhoods

All of these are great reasons to visit New York. Let me offer a little tip on each of these 5 things. For shopping, one department store is great for New Yorkers and for tourists: Century 21, right near the old World Trade Center. I’ve bought everything from watches to shoes to sports jackets at this place, always steeply discounted. When I go to New York around Christmas time, that’s where I go to buy presents.

For bars, I say find the ones that do great music. I have fond memories of the 55 Bar & Grill where I used to see Sweet Georgia Brown. Great blues there most of the time. And for a more expensive and upscale experience, the Iridium. I saw Les Paul there – just classic.

Broadway – Actually my least favorite reason as I’ve never felt like shelling out the big bucks for a Broadway show. Try to plan well in advance and figure how to get discount tickets.

Museums – No doubt about it. So many great ones in NYC and you can’t see them all. Heck, you can’t even see all of the MET, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but you sure can see a lot of art there.

Neighborhoods – Heck yeah. So many famous ones. The most overlooked would be Harlem. There’s lots to do there and I laugh at how it seems the whole world is scared of Harlem.

And don’t forget to leave Manhattan once in a while. The Bronx Zoo would be a wonderful excuse.

If the replacement refs had been in the game for that non-call on the obvious pass interference on Cruz that resulted in a Browns interception, the media would be all over it. Somehow the regular refs get a pass even though they are horrendous. What’s up with that?

Anyhow, the Giants offense explodes and Beatty looks real good in there at tackle which is a beautiful thing. What’s not beautiful is the Giants defense. We figured the injuries in the secondary would be an issue but where is the defensive line pressure?

Trent Cole dove at Eli’s knees after our QB handed the ball off. So you have a late hit to the quarterback’s knees on a non-pass play. One of the dirtiest plays I’ve seen in a long time, fitting that it should come on the night when the Eagles celebrate another cheap shot artist in Brian Dawkins.

And WTF refs? No penalty for the dirtiest play so far this season? Ron Winter, you screwed the pooch.

And the announcers didn’t have much to say either but we don’t expect much from announcers or refs while we expect nothing but bush league from the Eagles.
