Giants need help on offensive line

Friday, August 31st, 2012

There’s bad and there’s ugly. The Giants offensive line is both. I think we have to look for cuts from other teams because we have some injuries: Beatty and Brewer. Then we have bad play from Petrus who was supposed to be decent for us. McCants and Caper were horrid and have no business on our practice squad. But after getting rid of those 2 guys we still don’t have a good offensive line based on preseason play/ Could be trouble.

Giants trim roster but injuries the bigger story

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

No real surprises as the Giants trimmed their roster to 75. In a few days when they go down to 53 there will be some tough decisions, complicated by the injury situation. Added to the PUP list were Chris Canty (whoi we’re all worried about) and Travis Beckum (who one expects anything from).

But let’s talk about injury bconcerns – notice all the big name players on defense who missed practice yesterday:

TE Travis Beckum (knee – PUP)
OG Chris Snee (leg)
OT James Brewer (unknown)
DE Justin Tuck (shoulder)
DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back)
DE Osi Umenyiora (knee)
DE Adrian Tracy (hamstring)
DT Chris Canty (knee – PUP)
DT Shaun Rogers (blood clot)
DT Marvin Austin (back)
LB Michael Boley (hamstring)
LB Mathias Kiwanuka (groin)
CB Prince Amukamara (ankle)
CB Terrell Thomas (knee)
CB Jayron Hosley (toe)
S Tyler Sash (ankle and suspended first 4 games)

Depending on who can play when, the Giants might have to keep some injured players on the roster and some extra backups that might not have otherwise made the team. This might end up exposing some players to the practice squad that the Giants would rather have protected on the 53 man roster. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out but it might be a problem.

Giants show some good things, some bad vs. Chicago

Saturday, August 25th, 2012

The Giants first team looked decent, but the backup offensive linemen looked bad enough to erase any joy I could have gotten from the first half. It’s hard to say who was worse, Carr or the offensive linemen behind him.

But Eli had a strong game and it just got harder to cut Ramses Barden so that makes things interesting at wide receiver. Further complicating things ay wide receiver: David Douglas. He looked good returning punts and the giants do, in fact, need someone back there returning punts. But there’s no room for Hixon, Barden, and Douglas so one of them has to go…

While the Giants first team offense struggled, our defense was great. Still some nice ctahces by Cruz that are fun to watch:

Cowboys coming after the Giants

Sunday, August 12th, 2012

Seems the Cowboys are obsessed with the new York Giants, thinking about them every day according to Jason Witten. What would be sweet is if the Giants crush them in week 1 and set the tone for the season.

This article credits their failures against the Giants for all the Cowboys big moves in the secondary and on the offensive line. Imagine Dallas fans when they realize it was all for nothing after opening day.

Why Tyler Sash but not Andre Brown?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

Tyler Sahs has lost his appeal and will miss four games for using Adderall in March. Now the first question is why didn’t he tell the doctor to look at the NFL’s list of banned stuff. But the second question is why HB Andre Brown was suspended by the NFL for four games earlier this year for using Adderall, but that suspension was later overturned.

Sash’s explanation seems pretty reasonable:

I took a prescription drug (Adderall) legally under a doctor’s care for an anxiety condition during the offseason in March of this year. The purpose was to help me with public speaking appearances. I had no idea that this prescription drug was banned by NFL policy. Although I take full responsibility for this situation, I also want to state that I have never cheated or taken performance-enhancing drugs, and I frown on those who do. I am highly disappointed by the league’s decision in this matter, but I will continue to do my best on and off the field. From this point on, I will be more conscientious about every single thing I put in my body. Once again, I want to reiterate that I have never been and will never be associated in any way with performance-enhancing drugs. The timing of this positive test was March 2012, a time during which there is no physical performance required of me. I hope this explanation reinforces my innocence and shows that my intentions were pure.
