It’s been called a restructure but all reports so far indicate Osi got a raise. Why did the Giants give him a 1 year raise?
It’s hard to say Osi has been underpaid the last few years. Sure he’s one of the best pass rushers and he will force fumbles. But he also misses a lot of games. Nevertheless, I doubt we’re Super Bowl champs without his strong play late last season.
So underpaid or not, we are better with Osi and this team is ready to win now.
Also, note the timing. Osi fires his agent, then he gets his money. Maybe the Giants are sending a big FU to Tony Agnone and maybe even a warning to other palyers that there chances of getting money with Agnone are worse than their chances with anyone else.
And several Giants had said they felt Osi was underpaid. The front office wants cohesion, wants all guys to believe the team does right by their players. This might make it easier to extend guys in the future. JPP, Cruz, Nicks – lots of important guys contracts are coming up and we want them feeling warm and fuzzy about Big Blue.
But as fans, we get to let other people worry about the business side of things as we sit back, drink our beers, pet our dogs, and watch Osi – who is still one of the best in the game at rushing the passer and forcing fumbles – win us some more games.
