Shockey a Saint: what do you think of the Shockey trade?
This is a big trade – Shockey for the Saints 2009 2nd and 5th round draft picks. Trading big name players has become rare in the NFL, especially when they have a few years left on their contract. Did the Giants do the right thing?
Well they did win in the playoffs and Super Bowl without Shockey. And Shockey did have some annoying drops. And Shockey did have some trouble staying healthy.
But Shockey was pretty rare in that he was a big threat receiver and a very good blocker. Shockey was easy to root for because he played hard – watching him run over safeties was fun.
In the end I think it’s a fair trade in terms of value. Obviously if we screw up the 2009 draft we’ll end up looking stupid. But if the Giants draft a couple of starters who help us win and get paid a lot less than Shockey then things will look pretty good…
What do you think? Good trade or bad trade?

Bye, Bye Baby Huey (aka Jeremy Shockey) – “I don’t get the ball enough -waah, waah – they throw to Plaxico too much – waah, waah – they throw to Amani too much – waah, waah – they run too much – what about ME, what about ME, what about ME – waah, waah, waah.” Hey Huey – go away happy, go away sad, go away angry, go way glad – JUST GO AWAY. What about being a team member – you refuse go to mini camps (unless you sit in the locker room and whine), you didn’t show for the parade & ring ceremony – AND YOU NEVER FINISH SEASONS lately! So Huey – let Sean Peyton change your diapers. The GIANTS only loss is negative energy and distraction. The real shame is given Huey’s skills; he could be one of the great tight ends in NFL history. Instead Shockey’s just another over paid punk with a bad attitude – NOTHING MORE. Huey’s not even on the same continent far less the same zip code as Mark Bavaro – now there was a GREAT GIANT tight end. Bye, Bye Huey – we’re glad to see you go!

i wish they would have gotten a quality linebacker for him .
But if that makes both sides happy good
Odd they only got second round draft choice and fifth says something about his value .
But i do like the man so wish him well with Payton and the Saints .
Hey Brees for Fantasy Football QB pick ?

It is sad a player of Shockey’s talent couldn’t overcome his overblown ego but the sad fact is Shockey was overrated.he never was healthy and never took his conditioning seriously enough.if you take some time and look at his stats you will see he really is no much better than say the NY Jets tight ends.he was good for maybe 2 good games a season and that was it.And also somebody never told Him a tight end IS suppose to block for that is one of the requirements of that position so yes it is sad to see him go but he is now the Saints problem and we can all look forward to a fine season out of Boss.

Necessary trade. A little short on value for the giants but its done and it feels like the g-men were backed in the corner on this one.

I think Shockey made the right decision in wanting to play on a team where he might get more passes thrown in in his direction. As a tight end his body probably takes more of a beating than the other blocking positions especially the way Shockey gives 100 percent on every play.

Chemistry, its what got us this title. Shockey obviously didnt get it. The huddles had to be so much more positive without him.Eli must be thrilled!Shockey will have agood first half,if the injuries dont get him, and Brees throws him the ball all the time. He’ll still end up being disruptive in the long run.

TO FOLLOW UP TO MY COMMENTS EARLIER IT IS SAD BECAUSE THAT IDIOT NEVER REALIZED HOW GOOD THIS TEAM IS AROUND HIM AND IF HE WOULD JUST HAVE BEEN MORE OF A PROFESSIONAL ABOUT EVERYTHING THIS OFF-SEASON HE COULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THIS TEAM AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS BEST SEASON AS A NY GIANT.BUT NOT EVERYTHING WAS BAD WITH THIS DUDE FOR I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM IN THAT SF PLAYOFF LOSS IN HIS ROOKIE SEASON WHEN HE CAUGHT THAT PASS NEAR THE END ZONE AND INSTEAD OF SCORING HE WENT RIGHT AFTER J PETERSON.WHAT A SHAME!

Hate to see Shockey go but it did seem like was a royal pain in the ass. I still remember seeing him as rookie TE and watching him bowl over some patriots in a pre-season game! He was awesome and I thought he would be the second coming of Bavaro, who I never got the chance to enjoy because I was really young, but have seen enough of him in old footage to realize he was a special TE. Besides everyone old enough to see Bavaro glows about him! I really though Shcokey would be my generations next great Giants TE.
But after his first two seasons, Shockey was always injured and he really did drop a lot of balls…especially when it counted.
Overall I’m disappointed it didn’t work out but Shockey in the end had to go.

He was an exceptional talent, but dropped too many balls and was a distraction in the locker room. There will be times next season when we miss his athleticism, but he missed too many games b/c of injury and ended virtually every season on the DL. Bottom line is…he didn’t want to be here anymore, so we got what we could for him. Eli may miss throwing to him, but not in the huddle after he felt he should’ve gotten the ball.

We should have done this trade on draft day because these picks will be lower down next year and it’ll be, ya know, next year instead of this year. But hindsight is 20/20. It would have been even better to keep Shockey but in the end the team had no choice. We’ll be fine.
