Injuries for Giants vs. Cowboys

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

This year it seems injuires have hit the Cowboys harder than the Giants. Here’s the latest injury report. I think it’s worth noting that Osi doesn’t show up on injury reporsts but the Gaints are still playing without one of the better defensive ends in the league.

I’m not sure what the deal is with Fred Robbins. He said there are “bruises here and there” on his hands. Antonio Pierce said, “I have a D-tackle playing with two broken hands so that is no excuse.”

Good article on Giants’ offensive line

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

The Steelers have the league’s best defense but our offensive line played their front 7 very well, well enough for us to win the game. This article talks about some particular plays and stats as it praises the Giants’ offensive line, one of the top 5 lines in the league for sure. Are they the best in the league?

Chase Blackburn ready to replace Antonio Pierce?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I don’t want to run Pierce out of New York or anything but with his injuries we can see that he is slowing down this season. Next year I hope he’s bigger and faster and whatever but I think the Giants have to wonder if that’s realistic.

If Pierce is nearing the end of his career how happy are we with Chase Blackburn at MLB? On the first play of the game he tackled Frank Gore behind the line of scrimmage and had 10 stops total. Stats aren’t everything but he was all over the field and he did have that forced fumble.

I don’t think we can say from one game, but I’ve always been a Chase Blackburn fan. I just appreciate guys that get results because they play hard and work hard even if they don’t have the athletic tools some guys in the NFL have.

So how badly do the Giants need a new MLB? Is Blackburn the long term answer? Will Pierce be here for a while longer?

Giants beat 49ers and move to 5-1

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

And they actually played defense! Michael Johnson comes up with a huge game thanks to two interceptions. The first one ledt to Giants points and the second one saved points (it was in the end zone). Plus the 49ers couldn’t run the ball to save their lives which was a beautiful thing.

So credit the Giants defensive line for having a nice rebound game. The secondary did well. The linebackers were good enough. If our defense gives up 10 (we won’t count the special teams thing against our d) points our offense should be able to score a few more.

The ugliest play would have to be the blocked field goal returned for a TD. But thanks to Feagles and Hixon our special teams looked OK besides that play.

Browns crush Giants – defense never showed up

Monday, October 13th, 2008

The Giants are still 1st in the NFC East but they sure didn’t play like a first place team. The defense got mauled – the Browns never even had to punt! The offense went turnover happy (3 interceptions from Manning). That’s a losing recipe every single time.

So this season’s undefeated record is gone. The road win streak going back to last season is gone. The offense that protects the football is gone. The stingy defense is gone. All wiped out by the 1-win Browns team that we Giants fans have to hope are not as bad as they’ve looked all season. Well until tonight when they looked like an actual NFL team while the Giants looked anything but.

I remember saying after the first couple of losses last year that I don’t mind too much when the Giants lose. Teams lose games and I understand that. But as a Giants fan I need my defense to at least show up and try to beat the other guys. Our defense was painful to watch they sucked so bad.

Cowboys & Redskins lose

Monday, October 13th, 2008

After the Giants win Monday night, this will have turned into an excellent week for us stats wise. The Eagles won so they are 3-3. The Cowboys and Redskins are 4-2. The Giants are 4-0 and need to take care of business Monday to go 5-0.

Trade for Tony Gonzalez Jerry!

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

Read this. How could a Giants fan not want to make this trade? Sure the dude is 32 and he eats funny but come on! He is a great tight end – far more consistent than Shockey was and far more dangerous than Kevin Boss currently is.

Certainly no complaining about his motivation: “I haven’t even won a playoff game. That’s the reality of it. You can look back and say you had a pretty good career, but I want to be able to say I went to the playoffs, I won some playoff games and I went to the Super Bowl.”

Manning and Burress in the news

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Not sure why all the papers write about the same thing at the same time but now Eli manning is the hot topic. I guess it’s hard to argue that the Super Bowl champ and MVP is the best QB in the NFL. That’s what a lot fo these articles are saying. Newsday says it. The Daily News says it. Twice.

Of courrse Burress also made the news some. Even that article features a heavy dose of Manning.

Giants destroy Seahawks

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

The Giants offense didn’t need Plaxico Burress to embarass the Seattle Sehawks. Seattle had no answer to the Giants run game and Manning was very accurate: 19-of-25 for 267 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Even David Carr got in on the action with a TD pass. Was this the first time in NFL history that two #1 overall pick quarterbacks threw a touchdown pass to the in the same game for the same team and even to the same receiver? And who would have guessed that the receiver would be Sinorice Moss. Giants fans wondering what would happen to Moss are still wondering since he’s starting to look like a keeper…

The defense also owned Seattle all day giving up only 2 field goals. No one had a ton of tackles (Aaron Ross led the Giants with 6) but then again, Seattle didn’t really have the ball much.

WR Domenik Hixon and RT Kareem McKenzie had to leave the game with concussions. Get well soon guys!

Romo vs. Manning

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Truth hurts Cowboys fans:

A pattern that should concern Dallas fans even more: Romo’s turnovers. In his last eight games dating to last season, including the playoff loss to the Giants, Romo has thrown just as many INTs (10) as he has TD passes (10). Never mind the 300-yard passing games. Frequent turnovers aren’t the sign of an elite quarterback, status Romo has been widely granted despite never winning a playoff game. For comparison, consider Eli Manning. During his past eight games, including postseason, the Giants’ quarterback has 14 TD passes and just three picks. Makes a difference.
