Congratulations! Can the Giants do it again?

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

This SportingNews article argues that the Giants haven’t lost anything to worry about and are the team to beat in 2008. I agree with the second part but we did lose Gibril Wilson and replacing him with a rookie might work out or might not.

In addition, we still don’t know if we’ll lose Strahan. We do know he is happy about his new ring though. Obviously there are a ton of ring articles out there now. This one is from the New York Times. And here’s Newsday.

Media day: Giants coaches talk

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Giants.com has coverage of media day interviews with Giants’ coaches.

I was interested in what Kevin Gilbride had to say because like many Giants fans I never really though he was a permanent solution at offensive coordinator. Well helping the Giants win a Super Bowl sure changed my mind…

Of course you’ll have to put up with some silly questions. Liek who’s the genius who came up with this one:

Q: Entering training camp you pretty much know you have Plaxico (Burress) and Amani (Toomer) as your receivers. Then you have three young guys that are going to be competing for a lot of snaps – Steve Smith, Sinorice Moss and Mario Manningham. Is that competition between the young guys going to help them become better football players?

Isn’t it pretty obvious that competing (in other words working harder) will make them better?

But there is interesting stuff in there too and I don’t see too much other Giants’ news coming out so take a look.

Glad we beat the Pats before the nerf

Monday, May 19th, 2008

This New York Times article argues that “The N.F.L.’s response to New England’s spying reflects a tolerance for cheating that is unacceptable.” They call for politicans to do something to help the NFL show kids it’s wrong to cheat.

I don’t really care what happens to the Pats but I am super happy that we beat them before the nerfs. No one can take anything away from the Giants Super Bowl win but next year apologists will be crying about the missing draft pick…

Pretty classy comments about the Giants from Tom Brady

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Tom Brady has some nice things to say about the Giants:

“And I have a lot of respect for that team because they work hard, and they have a lot of great leaders on that team. It’s kind of a blue-collar team. When you do lose a game, you at least want to lose to guys you respect. And I certainly respect those guys. I don’t respect everybody, but I do respect the Giants.”

Kenny Phillips & Dhani Jones int he news

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

This quickie from Paul Schwartz tells us that the Giants expect Kenny Phillips to earn some playing time at free safety this season. Personally considering the lack of depth we have at free safety I’d be shocked if he didn’t get to play there at least some.

And turning to former Giants, apparently Dhani Jones is making news playing non-American sports.

Giants visit Walter Reed

The Giants visited the White House, but they also visited Walter Reed Medical Center – here’s the story about how our Giants interacted with wounded soldiers.

Giants at the White House

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Here’s a bunch of quotes from Bush’s speech when the Giants visited the White House. To me, this is the most important part:

Lt. Col. Greg Gadson, the team’s inspiration this past season, was on hand and stood for the entire ceremony with the aid of his prosthetic legs. Lt. Col. Gadson lost both of his legs to a roadside bomb in Iraq.

“I’m proud to be on the stage with this man,” President Bush said to the team. “To me, it’s a symbol of your respect for our country and your patriotism that you let Greg Gadson be a part of this team. He’s got the Purple Heart, he’s got three bronze stars and now he’s got a Super Bowl ring – minted for a true giant.”

I don’t care if you think politics are bad and I hope you think war is bad. But Gadson’s story is an inspiring one – plus his inspiration helped the Giants win the Super Bowl…
