Run first, pass second

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Mike Garafolo seems to think that the Giants need to do better in the passing game. I think that’s true but only to a very limited extent.

Fewer drops would be nice, but I don’t want the Giants to focus on the passing game. The running game will win us games – how many times last season did we see the coaches stop running (even if the running game was working) in order to call some pass plays (which usually didn’t work).

Let’s make ours a run-first offense and not try to outpass the Patriots.

Giants defense fun to watch in victory over 49ers

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

The Giants defense pretty much owned the 49ers offense on a day when our own offense clearly wasn’t going to win the game on its own. This Yahoo sotry has the recap.

This article reminds us not to get too excited. The 49ers did a lot of things to beat themselves. And it shouldn’t be surprising that our D was able to dominate the league’s worst offense.

And the Giants still need to worry about special teams. Missed extra points and blocked punts for safeties are inexcusable.

Giants defense finally fun to watch

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

This article comparing the current Giants defense with the 85 Bears (even though the same article says it’s not possible) says that our defensive scheme might be as close as you’re going to get to the old Bears one. Of course that would mean the Philly defensive scheme is pretty close too.

Sam Madison earns some praise

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Just a quick link to an article on Sam Madison, who is playing well this year. He credits the new defensive system and being healthy with his improved performance.

Giants vs. Falcons

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

The Giants should beat the falcons who rank 21st against the run and have an exploitable secondary. Our offense can beat their defense.

The Falcons offense is hurting at offensive tackle, so our ends should have a big day. Crumpler of course is still a threat.

And the Giants special teams will cost us a game eventually if they don’t improve a lot.

Similarities in Giants games

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Here’s an interesting article comparing the Giants second half performances in the recent Jets game and the earlier Redskins game. Some scary similarites actually as Manning threw a bad intereception leading to points right before the half in both games.

The other similarities are better: strong play from Plax (who despite the ankle is kicking butt) and strong defense.

Giants win a messy game – show some heart

Monday, October 8th, 2007

The Giants showed some heart in a mistake-filled game to get a come-from-behind win.

The Giants defensive line didn’t get much pressure on Pennington but still shut down the Jets. They were helped tremendously by Pennington but still we give our boys in blue credit. The jets got their points off of turnovers and special teams mostly.

The offense went from looking pretty bad in the first half (you don’t want your offense giving up points) but they scored in the second half (as did the defense) and got the job done.

More love for David Diehl

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Yesterday i wrote about how well Diehl is playing and how the draft “experts” are much much dumber than the average fan (me). Anyway, here we have an article giving Diehl some more love.

Unfortunately for Petigout, he got hurt again. The Giants clearly made the right move though I wasn’t so sure at the time.

Who wishes we had drafted a LT?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

A lot of draft experts slammed the Giants for not drafting a left tackle. I called them out on this site for being idiots.

Meanwhile David Diehl comes out and shuts down trent Cole (1 tackle, 1 assist, zero sacks). People just don’t get the simple fact that rookies don’t come in and play LT better than vets (see Gallery, Robert).

6 tackles, 6 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Obviously the entire Giants defense kicked ass. It was fun to watch them crush the Eagles even if the game wasn’t a nailbiter. Not that the offense didn’t try to keep it close…

But Osi, are you kidding me? 6 tackles, 6 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

12 sacks in agame? Crazy!

Anyway, I’m very grateful that our defense is picking it up. Who would have guessed considering the first 2 games?
