A few Carolina papers writing about the game

      Monday, December 11th, 2006

You don’t usually see teams more beat up than the Giants, but Carolina qualifies. With a hurt QB and two hurt CBs, Carolina is in trouble if the Giants show up today.

This NC article still says that the game is Carolina’s to lose and predicts the Panthers will get an early lead and blow it. The Giants aren’t the only team that can blow a game they should win… And funnily enough the writer blames Julius Pepper’s vanishing act last week on Runyan’s constant holding. Will the refs ever make that Eagles tool play by the rules?

This article reminds us that in the past 3 years the Giants are 1-11 without Strahan. Ouch. The Panthers have given up 16 first quarter points but over 100 fourth quarter points this season. Ouch for them.

Anyway, the game is starting soon. Enjoy!

      Who’s playing, who’s not playing

      Sunday, December 10th, 2006

It’s not official, but it looks like Chris Weinke will start for the Panthers in tomorrow’s game against the Giants. For the Giants, Jay Feely seems to be OK. Of course the Giants special teams are not OK.

There’s also a fun article on Seubert and his role as the Giants blocking tightend.

What do we need to see happen next?

      Friday, December 8th, 2006

Why not support this blog’s biggest fan’s store:

It has been quite an interesting 2006 season for the New York Giants. Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan joined Jeremy Shockey and Tiki Barber in expressing frustrations by complaining about Plaxico Burress quitting on plays. Shockey and Barber criticized the Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin earlier. Last Sunday Night Game against the Dallas Cowboys was both a nail-biter and a bitter dissapointment for Giants fans everwhere. This week’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers should be another great game and I think the Giants have the edge on this one. Getting to the NFL playoffs seems like a long hard road from here. But it would be awesome to see the Giants make it all the way to Super Bowl 41.

How much can we blame on the Giants coaches?

      Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Artur Staple accurately points out that Coughlin and co. can be held accountable for the playcalling, but not for all player performances. Will Demps, for example, needs to play better and no amount of coaching will turn Frank Walker into a player who always makes smart decisions. As always a good read worth checking out.

Is Giants playcalling in the redzone too predictable?

      Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Brady James fom the Cowboys was on Sirius today and said when the Giants are too predictable in the red zone. Basically, when Jacobs is in they know it will be a run, and when Tiki is in it’s a pass.

The Giants playcalling isn’t always this obvious as passes have been thrown to Jacobs, and he has been in on some play action passes. Is the problem that the Giants stop mixing it up when they get close to the endzone? Or did they just stop mixing it up for the Dallas game? Or is Brady James totally off when he says we’re predictable in the red zone?

Losing sucks, but the Dallas loss doesn’t hurt as bad…

      Monday, December 4th, 2006

The Giants 23-20 loss to Dallas hurts, but sometimes you lose to a last second field goal. It happens.

It shouldn’t have. Our kickoffs / kickoff coverage shouldn’t be giving Dallas such nice field position. Our play calling shouldn’t be so hard to understand. The defense should give up a 40+ yard completion to the tight end at the end of the 4th quarter. When it’s 1st and goal we should usually get a TD.

Can the Giants come up with an upset victory over Dallas?

      Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Getting Osi Umenyiora back is going to be huge, but Fred Robbins needs to continue kicking ass. Cowboys fans expect to win (and unlike our last meeting, this time they actually might) but are still scared: “While I feel confident in the Cowboys, this game scares me, too. The Giants are a wounded animal on their home turf and cornered.”

Another Dallas article warns Cowboys fans not to bet on this one: Even though the Giants are children, bullies, and quitters, “The rise of Tony Romo has changed the NFC, but it also clouds the circumstance of this game. Dallas is favored on the road despite having lost to the Giants before, and that plays into a basic Vegas betting principle: Be wary of the home underdog within the division.”

If the Giants don’t win, Coughlin’s job might be in jeopardy.

Giants returning to action in time for Dallas

      Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

This should help. Hopefully Madison, Umenyiora, and Short can help the Giants play a real football game instead of the crap we’ve been watching the last few weeks. One Giants player who misses critical tackles had this to offer: “You know you can’t keep the same guys you break camp with,” safety Will Demps said, “but getting closer to that is definitely going to give us the fire and energy we had when we were winning.”

Now if Demps picks up his game as well we might have something good.

Redskins, cut blocks, and cheap shots

      Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Well here’s a very well written article that says the Redskins offensive linemen want to do more cut blocking and the coaches will give them the opportunity. Why they want to be a part of that disgusting brand of football is one question. Another is what we can do about those idiots diving at our guys’ legs. I don’t know if I can hate the Redskins any more, but if a Giants player gets hurt on one of these dirty, yet legal plays I’ll certainly find out.

Giants getting healthier before the Cowboys game

      Friday, December 1st, 2006

Archie Manning says Eli will improve but maybe not in time for the Dallas game. Obviously we need Manning to outperform Romo (who says he is not dating Jessica Simpson).

The Cowboys seem to be in decent shape, though TO is talking too much. Here’s an article that talks about how they aren’t overlooking the Giants.

Hopefully we can outplay them even though they are healthier and have had longer to prepare and have momentum on their side. We might be getting some guys back as Osi Umenyiora (hip flexor), Brandon Short (quad), Sam Madison (hamstring), and Sinorice Moss (quad) all practiced yesterday. All four are questionable.
