    • Who’s an idiot?

Consider Jim Rich, the Daily News writer who compared Eli Manning to Dave Brown. These excerpts come from three different articles:

JIM DANDIES: Here’s the most important thing you need to know about this game: The Giants are not good. Anyone drinking the Manning Kool-Aid after his strong finish last year is heading for a wicked hangover. Manning appears to be a hard worker and an all-around nice guy, but he has Dave Brown written all over him. In fact, if Eli’s last name wasn’t Manning, he’d be halfway run out of town by now. Even though Kurt Warner’s a good Christian, he has to have vengeance on his mind, and will summon whatever he has left to beat the team that scorned him. It also helps that he has WRs to throw to such as Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. If you don’t like money, bet on the Giants all year. IF I WERE A BETTING MAN: Cardinals and the under.

JIM DANDIES: This week’s Eli Manning-Dave Brown watch: In 1995, Brown’s second season, he was 20-of-34 for 155 yards and an INT in a Week 1 loss to Dallas. Manning was 10-of-23 for 172 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs last week in a run-driven, special-teams aided rout of the Cardinals. One other note when comparing Manning to Brown: Brown’s top two receivers were Chris Calloway and Mike Sherrard. Wonder how Eli would do throwing to them? Give the Giants (1-0) credit for this, however, they went out and improved their biggest weakness – special teams – with the addition of Chad Morton, who returned a punt 52 yards for a TD last week. The Saints (1-0) seem to have turned the emotion of Hurricane Katrina into positve energy, but playing away from home is going to get tough. This one should be close, but New Orleans is the better team.

JIM DANDIES: Eli Manning, who went 24-for-41 for 352 yards and two TDs, had the best game of his brief career vs. the Chargers, but the Giants (2-1) defense was shredded by Drew Brees (19-for-22, 191 yards, 2 TDS) and LaDainian Tomlinson (192 yards, 3 TDs). While Manning was impressive in the second quarter in leading Big Blue back from a 21-3 deficit, a good chunk of his production came in the second half when the Chargers were well ahead. Marc Bulger – fourth in the NFL with 870 passing yards – poses problems for a mediocre Giants secondary. He and Torry Holt (league-best 358 receiving yards) should become quite familiar with the Giants Stadium end zones. If Mike Martz can stay out of the way, the Rams (2-1) should come out on top.
IF I WERE A BETTING MAN: Rams and the over.

Notice how the Dave Brwon watch has been suspended…

One Response to “Who’s an idiot?”

      1. Todd Says:

Yeah I remember reading that first Dave Brown comparison and just shaking my head. Well everyone’s starting to come around on the Eli Bandwagon. My friends have been making fun of Manning and the trade for a year and a half saying he’s no good, saying he’ll be outof the league in 3 years… I must have gotten at least 5 or 6 “I was wrong’s” this week…
